Klopp: Champions League helps Liverpool FC transfers

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool’s Champions League return makes them more enticing prospect to signings.

A 6-3 aggregate win over Hoffenheim saw the Reds secure their place in Thursday’s group stage draw for the first time in the past four seasons.

This year’s draw in Monaco coincides with the final seven days of the transfer window in a summer where Liverpool’s spending has been relatively modest.

Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson are the only two senior players to arrive for a combined £45 million over the course of the current market.

But Klopp feels that Champions League qualification can now have a significant bearing on Liverpool’s plans between now and August 31.

He said: “Qualifying? It’s a big influence on the transfer market – especially if we do it more often.

“I said before the game how important it is, especially when you talk to a player (to sign him), because we speak to players who are better than our players and they are difficult to find.

“We talk to players and they say if you would play Champions League it would be interesting, all this stuff and even if we extend a contract with (a player in) the squad, they say ‘I want to play Champions League’.

“We did it together. Fourteen months hard work and we did it. Nice.”
