Liverpool’s Hope & Glory festival beset by chaos

A new Liverpool music festival was engulfed in chaos on its first-ever day.

Angry revellers demanded refunds after Hope and Glory ran into a number of wide-ranging issues at its inaugural event in the city centre on Saturday.

Entry queues lasted for over and hour and stretched around St George’s Quarter, with police called in to ease the congestion amid fears of overcrowding.

Various iconic bands are due to perform over the course of the weekend, with The Fratellis, James and the Lightning Seeds among those on the billing.

But a two-hour schedule delay led to the cancellation of several acts, with Charlotte Church confirming to her Twitter followers that her set was also pulled.

She wrote: “Just to let you know we have been pulled from the hope and glory lineup due to them running 2 hours behind. We’re gutted!

“We have travelled from Cardiff to play for you lovely Liverpudlians! However we are willing to do a guerilla gig in the city if any venues will have us.

“I know there are a lot of disappointed people with tickets who can’t even get into the festival, so if we can we’ll try and so (sic) a gig somewhere.”

Music fans claimed that access to basic facilities once inside the festival, including food and drink and toilets, were inaccessible due to the sheer volume of people.
