Man charged with Birkenhead street attack

A man will appear in court after being charged with a street attack in Birkenhead.

The 47-year-old was found on Claughton Road at around 2.45pm on Wednesday following reports that a man had fallen down some steps near the B&M store.

He was transferred from Arrowe Park hospital to the Walton Neurological Centre in Liverpool after suffering several bleeds on the brain in the alleged incident.

Detectives have confirmed that the man is now in a stable condition.

Five people were initially held in connection with the incident but Paul William Robinson, 48, has since been charged with Section 18 wounding.

Robinson, of no fixed abode, has been remanded in custody to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court on Friday.
