Police drop investigation into Ross Barkley attack

An investigation into an attack on footballer Ross Barkley has been dropped by police.

Barkley was assaulted in a Liverpool city centre bar in April that the Everton FC player’s representatives claimed at the time had been an ‘unprovoked attack’.

CCTV footage of the alleged incident in Santa Chupitos surfaced on social media which prompted detectives to contact the 23-year-old about what happened.

But Merseyside Police have confirmed that they are no longer pursuing the case.

“The victim did not support a prosecution and therefore no further action will be taken”, a spokesman told the Daily Mirror.

Barkley is expected to leave Everton this summer after manager Ronald Koeman confirmed that the England international rejected a new contract offer.
