Jurgen Klopp is confident Emre Can will stay at Liverpool this summer.
The influential midfielder has yet to agree a new long-term contract with the Reds after entering the final 12 months of his existing deal with the club.
Can is understood to be holding out for a salary of £100,000 per week to safeguard his Anfield future amid continued interest from Juventus.
But Klopp remains hopeful that the Germany international remains at Anfield following positive discussions ahead of his return to pre-season training.
“You can imagine we’re involved in talks and we all feel good and confident in this moment,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“That means they’re not the worst talks but until anything is done or signed there’s nothing to say.
“Emre is a very important player for us. We don’t want to sell or lose players who are in our first line up or close to it.
“Emre is certainly one of them. We want to keep him and we’re having good talks.”
The Liverpool manager’s comments fly in the face of reports from Italy that Can has agreed terms with Juventus, who have extensively monitored his situation.
Tuttosport allege that the 23-year-old’s proposed move to the Serie A champions is imminent after he negotiated a financial package ahead of a formalised offer.
The Bianconeri are expected to table a bid between £27 million and £31.5m.
