The Brazilica Carnival returns for its 10th year running next week with events taking place across the city from July 14 to 16.
This year’s carnival kicks off on July 14 at 8pm on Albert Dock as they crown the 2017 Brazilica Carnival Queen with Panam at Albert Dock.
With musi and a samba dancing competition, judged by a panel headed by Ellie Phillips, the free event will be a great way to kick off the carnival.
The festival has found itself a new home for its 10th installment on Liverpool’s iconic pier head, as it joins the Pier Head Village, which opened for the summer earlier this week.
The Pier Head’s locally-sourced food and artisan stalls, adrenaline rushing rides and great entertainment will get a samba touch with Brazilica’s main stage added to the village.
On the Saturday night there’ll be a carnival parade taking over the streets of Liverpool.
Led by the carnival queen from Abercromby Square thousands are expected to join in as it makes its way towards Williamson Square, ending in spectacular fashion.
The Brazilian Film Festival will be returning for its third year running, showing documentaries and dramas from across the country in venues around the city.
A Fringe Festival packed with exhibitions and workshops will have artists and musicians from all over the country performing throughout Liverpool city centre.
Maeve Morris, Artistic Director of Liverpool Carnival Company, said: “We’re delighted to be able to bring Brazilica to the Liverpool waterfront for 2017. It’s where the city has always looked out towards the rest of the world – and particularly the Americas.
“This year’s event is packed with music and colour, from our annual Carnival Parade to the amazing line-up of bands and performers we have for the festival stage at the Pier Head. We can’t wait to celebrate our 10th anniversary with the people of Liverpool – we know how the city likes a great party and that’s what we can promise it will get.”
Brazilica Carnival is the largest U.K. samba carnival event and has become an exciting part of Liverpool’s annual events, drawing over 60,000 to the city for the event.
