Two Liverpool entrepreneurs have created a TripAdvisor-style app for fitness lovers.
Michael Holden and Stephen Edgerton created the Checkfit app with the simple idea of helping people find the best local gyms to suit their needs.
With an easy-to-use navigation, the site will show gym-goers blogs, reviews, images, facilities, amenities and brief, detailed descriptions of gyms nearby.
The Kirby duo were surprised that their idea had not already been created before beginning their two-year process of bringing Checkfit to life.
Holden and Edgerton have made sure that the app is family-friendly and no gyms and clubs are charged to feature, with already over 500 registered.
Stephen said: “We don’t charge any gym, club or service provider anything to be on the site – it is completely free,”
“This means the information we offer to users is totally impartial.”
Parents can also find the best suited clubs and activity for their children, including a breakdown of the cost and necessary equipment and clothing needed.
Michael has a 12-year-old daughter and nine-year-old son, while Stephen has a 12-year-old son and 10-year-old twin boys.
Out of frustration of not finding a club for their kids, they came up with the concept for Checkfit and have already invested around £50,000 into Checkfit.
Michael said: “When we started working on this properly around 18 months ago we found some agencies were happy to take our money but weren’t much interested in helping to make Checkfit a success.
“Eventually, we found an agency near us in Prescot . They really got our idea and have played a big part in helping us get to where we are now.”
Stephen added: “We are now getting fantastic feedback from gyms and clubs and it has really snowballed.
“It has been amazing so far and we aim to roll this out across the North West and eventually to the whole country.”
