Watford leading hunt for Liverpool FC misfit

Lazar Markovic could be set to leave Liverpool this summer for a reunion with Marco Silva at Watford.

Silva took the out-of-favour winger on loan during the second half of last season as Hull City ultimately failed in their battle for Premier League survival.

But the new Hornets manager is now keen to link up again with Markovic, whose prospects at Anfield have become increasingly stymied since his 2014 arrival.

The Reds are looking to sell the Serbia international for as closely possible to his original £20 million outlay, having failed to offload him in successive years.

Markovic spent the 2015/16 campaign with Fenerbahce but was unable to convince the Turkish Super Lig club to take him on a permanent basis.

A return to his former stomping ground in Portugal similarly faltered as Sporting Lisbon terminated a season-long loan in January, five months ahead of schedule.

Another spell followed at Hull, where the 23-year-old flourished under Silva.

That spell convinced the new Watford boss to make Markovic a key priority in the transfer market as he aims to usher in a new era at Vicarage Road.

But Liverpool’s valuation may prove a stumbling block to the Premier League mainstays amid interest from Zenit St Petersburg and clubs in Portugal and Italy.
