Underperforming Everton FC ‘need to be higher’ in Premier League table

Everton midfielder Gareth Barry admits that the club are underperforming in this season’s Premier League.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Watford was the Blues’ fourth successive game without a win and, as it stands, are on course to finish languishing in mid-table, behind the likes of Bournemouth and West Brom.

Supporter pressure continues to mount on under-fire manager Roberto Martinez and Barry, who returned to the starting line-up last weekend following suspension, admits that Everton’s current best is not good enough.

He said:: “When you look at our league position, with the players we’ve got, we need to be higher. You can’t argue about that.

“There is a lot of negativity around at the moment. We don’t want to finish another season in the bottom half of the table.

“We need to make sure we start playing better together as a team.”
