Liverpool One’s big screen was taken over by an apparent computer hack.
Hackers broke into the system at the Liverpool city centre leisure complex on Monday and displayed a message to shoppers in the area.
Bosses at the shopping centre were urged to ‘improve your security’ in the message which and was signed off by ‘your friendly neighbourhood hackers’.
A Liverpool One spokeswoman confirmed that one screen was affected in the venue that rose to prominence on social media before it taken down.
She said: “Our screens are operated by an external company which is currently investigating what happened as a matter of urgency,” said a spokeswoman.
“As soon as the apparent hacked message appeared on the screen, Liverpool One immediately closed it down.”
Elonex, who operate the screens in Liverpool One, also issued a statement following the hacking.
“We can confirm an incident occurred over the weekend on one of the 18 screens we operate at Liverpool One,” a spokesman said.
“The incident appears to have been good-natured and not intended to cause offence or disruption, for which we are grateful.”
