Three arrested over Wavertree street shooting

Police have arrested three men in connection with a shooting in Wavertree.

Detectives executed a warrant at a house in the area on Saturday evening, little more than 24 hours after a man suffered multiple injuries on Stevenson Street.

The victim, 26, was taken to hospital for treatment to his face, leg and foot after he was discovered at the scene at around 3.50pm last Friday (May 19).

He remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital while a house was damaged by the shots fired in the incident although no one inside at the time was injured.

A 21-year-old from Wavertree was one of three people arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was questioned by police on Sunday.

Two men from the local area, aged 27 and 28, were also detained on the same charges and interviewed at a local police station.

Investigating officers are also trying to establish the movements of a red and white motorbike the victim had been riding moments before the targeted attack.

The victim was shot several times by one of several males armed with a handgun who he had become involved in a confrontation with in the middle of Stevenson Street.

His red and white motorbike was found next to him when police officers arrived at the scene.

Detectives are now keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing a red and white motorbike anywhere in the Liverpool or Knowsley area in the hour before the shooting.

Detective Inspector Elaine Coulter said: “This was a brazen attack in which a firearm was discharged multiple times in a busy street where people were going about their daily business.

“The community is understandably shocked and sickened by the actions of these criminals so I hope these arrests show that our investigation is progressing well and we will not give up until the offenders have been brought to justice.

“Information from the law-abiding public is crucial if we are to take action against these groups of criminals who care about no one but themselves.

“I would appeal for anyone who saw anything significant during the incident who has yet to come forward or who can help us piece together the victim’s movements prior to the attack to please call us or leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers.”

Anyone with information is urged to call the guncrime hotline on 0800 230 0600 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
