Third man arrested in New Ferry explosion probe

Police investigating March’s New Ferry explosion have made a third arrest.

Two men, aged 55 and 62, were detained on suspicion of conspiring to commit arson with intent as detectives executed warrants in Wirral and North Wales on Wednesday.

Both were subsequently released under investigation in connection with the blast which saw 34 people injured in the New Ferry area on the evening of March 25.

A third warrant has now been executed in the Cheshire area as part of the probe.

Officers arrested a local man on suspicion of conspiring to commit arson with intent/reckless as to whether life was endangered and an offence under the Fraud Act 2006.

The 65-year-old was questioned by detectives on Friday and has been released under police investigation.
