Two arrested over New Ferry explosion

Police have arrested two men in connection with the New Ferry explosion.

Several local businesses were damaged and at least 34 people were injured when a suspected gas leak wreaked devastation through the area late on March 25.

Officers executed warrants at addresses in Wirral and North Wales on Wednesday morning as part of its investigation into the cause of the blast.

Two men, aged 55 and 62, were arrested in the raids on suspicion of conspiring to commit arson with intent and reckless as to whether life was endangered.

Both have also been arrested on suspicion of an offence under the 2006 Fraud Act and are set to be questioned by detectives.
