Police have arrested three men over the murder of Thomas Baker.
The father-of-two, 44, was gunned down as he left the Phoenix Gym on the site of the city’s Meat Market, off Prescot Road, on the morning of January 27.
Detectives investigating the case have confirmed that three men have been detained on suspicion of their potential involvement in Mr Baker’s death.
Two, aged 29, and a 32-year-old – all from the Liverpool area – will be interviewed on suspicion of murder at police stations across Merseyside.
Detective Chief Inspector Bev Hyland, said: “It is more than three months since Thomas Baker was murdered and I would like to take this opportunity to continue to appeal for anyone who may be able to help us with our inquiries to come forward.
“CCTV footage obtained by detectives following the murder revealed that those responsible for the murder were in a silver VW Polo.
“We are appealing for anybody who has information in relation to the vehicle to contact the inquiry team.
“Following the shooting the car, which had its number plates obscured, left the car park of the gym and turned right onto Prescot Road heading towards the city.
“It travelled along a number of roads including Balmoral Road, Molyneux Road and Queens Road. It is believed that the car left the scene at speed and motorists may have had to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone who was at the Stanley Road Meat Market on the morning, as information they have could be vital to our inquiries.
“I believe that we may have captured some people on the CCTV footage who still haven’t come forward to speak to us and I would urge them to get in touch.
“They may not think that what they saw on the morning would be of any significance, but they could have information which is key to our inquiries.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 8663 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
