Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool will relish the pressure as the race for the top four heats up.
Sunday’s visit of Southampton could see the Reds strengthen their credentials for a third-place finish and qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Challengers Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United dropped points last weekend with the latter facing each other hours after the Anfield encounter.
But with all three clubs boasting games in hand, Liverpool’s place in Europe’s premier club competition remains far from a mathematical certainty.
Klopp believes that additional pressure to ensure his side do not slip up will serve as a positive as they prepare to welcome Claude Puel’s side.
He said: “There is positive pressure. We can go for something.
“We know about the quality of the opponent. I like watching Southampton.
“Our plan for Sunday is to use Anfield. For some, it’s a nervy situation but we need to be brave, enjoy the game and use the crowd.
“I understand absolutely that people are getting nervous but Anfield is always more than good. What we’re going for is for all of us.
“There is no club in the top sports who can waste points in this moment. No club has the opportunity to rest. We all have to fight. That makes the league exciting.
“There is a lot to go for in this league and we’re focused on our race. It’s difficult enough without thinking of the other games.
“I like this kind of pressure. Fighting for something really special is the best pressure you can have. We are in it, that’s positive.”
