Man turns up at Liverpool hospital with gun wound

Police have launched an investigation after a man suffering from a gun wound took himself to a Liverpool hospital.

The 40-year-old attended the city’s Royal hospital on Monday morning with a leg injury which detectives have established was consistent with a shotgun discharge.

His injuries are not life-threatening but officers have been carrying out extensive CCTV enquiries to establish the full circumstances leading up to the shooting.

Efforts to confirm where the incident took place are also ongoing, with police suggesting that it may have occurred in the Everton Park area of the city.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Shaw said: “At this stage it is believed that the incident may have happened around midnight into the early hours of yesterday morning, possibly in the Everton Park area.

“But this is unconfirmed and I would ask anyone with information to contact us.

“We will not tolerate the use of firearms on the streets of Merseyside and are relentless in our efforts to bring those who are prepared to use them to justice.

“Any detail, however small, may be key to our investigation and we will act on all information given.”

Anyone who has any information about this incident is asked to contact the Matrix Serious and Organised Crime gun crime hotline on 0800 230 0600 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
