Renshaw Street closed as fire crews tackle blaze

A Liverpool city centre street has been brought to a standstill by a large fire.

Four engines from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are tackling the blaze at a building on Renshaw Street, behind the former site of Rapid Hardware.

Crews were alerted to the fire at the scene shortly before 8am on Saturday and are attempting to contain it at the two-storey premises.

At this stage it is unknown whether or not anyone is in the building.

The force sent four firefighters into the building with breathing apparatus and a high pressure hose to fight the fire while simultaneously searching for people.
