Liverpool city centre skyscrapers given go-ahead

Plans to build a series of high-rise buildings in Liverpool city centre have been approved.

A proposed £250 million triple tower development on Leeds Street was given the go-ahead by council bosses at a planning committee meeting on Tuesday.

At 33 and 39 storeys high respectively, two of the towers would be considered ‘skyscrapers’ with the latter becoming the third-tallest building in the city.

Elliot Group are confident the Infinity project, which includes over 1,000 apartments, will be completed by autumn 2019 and aim to begin work later this year.

A separate 27-storey building was also given the green light by planning chiefs.

Ovatus 1 will stand at the junction of Leeds Street and Old Hall Street in a joint property venture between Prospect Capital and Wilcocks & Wilcocks.

The building will be one of two structures created with plans for Ovatus 2, a 48-storey tower, set to see the West Tower dwarfed as Liverpool’s tallest building.
