Liverpool’s leading cancer researchers, scientists and clinicians have received a visit from the city’s Archbishop.
The Most Reverend Malcolm McMahon attended the North West Cancer Research Centre this week for an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the facility.
Reverend McMahon inherited patronage of the centre based at the University of Liverpool when he took up his title of the city’s Archbishop in 2014.
His visit comes as the charity announces a commitment to funding more than £13 million worth of cancer research over the next five years, including projects based at the University.
During his visit, the Archbishop discovered how Dr Jason Parsons is using funding from North West Cancer Research to advance understanding of effective treatments for head and neck cancer patients.
He said: “It was a pleasure and a privilege to see the work being done by North West Cancer Research.
“I admire the enthusiasm and dedication of all those involved in this vital work and I have no hesitation in encouraging people to support this essential research in any way possible.”
North West Cancer Research will fund around £8.1million worth of research at the University of Liverpool over the next five years.
This includes support for researchers and PhD students, as well as the creation of research fellowships, helping attract some of the world’s leading cancer researchers to Liverpool.
