Liverpool FC fans condemned for Coleman taunts

Liverpool fans have been condemned after being filmed mocking Seamus Coleman’s recent injury.

A video taunting the Everton defender appeared on social media in the aftermath of Saturday’s 228th Merseyside derby, which the Reds comfortably won 3-1.

Jurgen Klopp and captain Jordan Henderson both offered well wishes in their programme notes to Coleman following his season-ending leg break last week.

But some supporters of the Anfield club did not appear to share those sentiments and were filmed openly taunting the injured Republic of Ireland international.

Singing a modified version of a chant Blues fans coined for Coleman, they can be heard singing ‘How’s your leg, Seamus Coleman? I hope you never play again.’

Les Lawson, chairman of the Merseyside branch of Liverpool’s Official Supporters Club, has admonished the behaviour of a vocal minority in a post-match pub.

He said: “Straight away after the injury everyone was hoping he makes a speedy recovery. It was a horrific tackle.

“It can easily be one of your own players and you should never mock a player who gets hurt like that.

“The majority of Liverpool fans wish him well and hope he is back to playing again soon.

“I remember, despite what was claimed, that when Alan Smith broke his leg and was stretchered off at Anfield the whole ground stood and applauded him.”
