A four-year-old is fighting for her life after a hit and run in St Helens.
Police were alerted to a suspected stolen black Ford Fiesta car came to the attention of police shortly before being involved in a road crash on Friday.
Two pedestrians, a woman and child, were involved in the collision on Prescot Road at around 3pm while the car also hit a lamppost during the incident.
A female pedestrian in her 50s has been taken to hospital for treatment. Her condition is currently said to be serious but stable.
However the girl’s condition is described as critical.
Two men inside the car left the scene of the collision on foot.
The first is described as white, aged 15-20, around 5ft 10in tall, of slim build, with brown hair. He was wearing a royal blue t-shirt and royal blue shorts.
A second male is described as being white, aged 15-20, with brown medium length hair. He was wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts and dark trainers.
Officers from the force’s Professional Standards Unit have been informed of the collision and the matter has been referred to the IPCC, due to the earlier police contact.
