David Haye has claimed he was racially abused by boxing fans in Liverpool.
The fighter made the claims as he prepares to take on Tony Bellew at London’s O2 arena on Saturday night for the pair’s long-awaited heavyweight bout.
At a press conference in Liverpool earlier this week, Haye angered followers of Bellew by branding them “f***ing retards” before refusing to retract the remarks.
But the 36-year-old has added fresh fuel to the fire with further jibes amid alleging racial slurs were aimed at him during the event at the city’s Hilton hotel.
He said: “There was a few [racist remarks]. There wasn’t a lot but there was more than there needed to be.
“It was a bunch of idiots. I didn’t enjoy that but that’s what he brings to the table.
“He is mixed race himself. I don’t think his crew realise his background.
“They are morons. I don’t want to spend much more time focusing about them.
“Get them to bet all of their dole money on Tony Bellew to win the fight, if they are so confident.
“Hopefully they will lose all of the money they get off the government.”
