Detectives are investigating after a sawn-off shotgun was found in an Anfield alleyway.
The firearm was recovered at around 3.10am on Thursday in the area behind Millman Road in the area by specialist officers for forensic enquiries.
Tests will be carried out to establish if the weapon is linked to any firearm incidents which have occurred in Merseyside.
Local Policing Superintendent Mark Wiggins said: “It is pleasing to see another firearm seized this week in Liverpool.
“Every one we find removes a weapon that could be used to cause fear, intimidation or harm to the people of Merseyside.
“The action taking place this morning and earlier in the week once again shows that if people continue to provide information, we will take positive action to make your communities safer.
