Man injured in Wavertree scrambler shooting

A man was injured after gunmen on scrambler bikes opened fire in Wavertree.

Emergency services were called to Earl Road just after 8.30pm on Thursday following reports that a silver Vauxhall Agila Club car had been shot at.

As a result of the shooting, the car collided with an unoccupied Volkswagen Phaeton after which the victim got out of the car and ran into the Earl Marshall pub.

The victim, a 40-year-old from Walton, was treaed at the scenebefore being taken to hospital, where he is being treated for a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

At this early stage of the investigation the motive for the shooting is currently unknown, although detectives believe that the incident was a targeted attack.

Detective Inspector Nick Suffield, said: “The shooting occurred just after 8.30pm and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, which we believed started on Earle Road, to come forward.

“At this stage we believe that shots were fired from a group of three males on scrambler bikes and as a result the victim, who had suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder, lost control of his car and collided with an unoccupied black car on Earl Road.

“I would urge members of the public who have any information, which could help us to take positive action against those involved in gun crime and make our streets safer, to pick up the phone and tell us what they know.
