Man charged over New Year’s Day stabbing

A man has appeared in court charged with a New Year’s Day stabbing in Liverpool which left a 21-year-old fighting for his life.

The victim had suffered serious injuries to his chest and thigh following the incident at St Peter’s Square during the early hours of January 1.

Nearby door staff detained a 24-year-old man from Garston, who was subsequently arrested on suspicion of wounding but later released.

Detectives have now confirmed that Joseph Adepetun has been charged with Section 18 assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

The 21-year-old, of no fixed abode, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Wednesday and has been been remanded to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on March 22.
