Man accused of Birkenhead attack dies in prison

A man accused of attempted murder in Birkenhead last month has died in prison.

James Palmer-Hoyes was one of two people charged with an attack on Claughton Road which saw a man hospitalised with facial and hand injuries on January 24.

The 50-year-old had been remanded in custody at HMP Liverpool over the incident close to Birkenhead Market but passed away just three days later.

Palmer-Hoyes was also facing charges for common assault of a different man in Whetstone Lane a day before the attack but this case has also been dropped.

Liverpool Crown Court were told that a cause of death has yet to be established in the letter received by prosecutors from the warden of the Walton prison.
