Two men have been charged with an attempted murder following an early-morning attack in Birkenhead.
Police were called to Claughton Road at around 4.50am on Tuesday to discover another man who had suffered injuries to his hands and face during the incident.
The man was taken to hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.
Stanley Barrett, 51, from Egremont was later charged on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Detectives also later detained a second man in connection with the attack.
James Palmer-Hoyes, 50, from Birkenhead was charged with attempted murder and common assault following an incident in Whetstone Lane on January 23.
He is scheduled to appear before Wirral Magistrates Court this morning.
