Sherwood’s to co-host Grand National Women’s summit walk

The 2015 Crabbie’s Grand National winning team of trainer Oliver Sherwood and his wife Tarnya will co-host delegates attending The Grand Women’s Summit on a course walk around the iconic Aintree fences.

The Grand National course walk forms part the events at the Grand Women’s Summit, co-hosted by Aintree Racecourse and Women in Racing on Ladies Day of the Crabbie’s Grand National festival, Friday 8 April.

Tarnya Sherwood fulfilled her dream of riding in The Grand National in 1989 riding Numerate. On the course walk Tarnya and Oliver will also join Katie Walsh, the most successful female jockey to ride in the Grand National and Carrie Ford who rode Forest Gunner into fourth place in the 2005 renewal. All delegates to the Grand Women’s Summit are welcome to attend the course walk.

Tarnya Sherwood said; “I have so many memories of the Grand National, last year is a highlight of course with Many Clouds winning, but riding in the race is right up there, nothing compares.

“We look forward to sharing our experiences of the National with guest’s attending the summit and it could be also a welcome distraction for the nerves ahead of Saturdays big race!”.

Following the coursewalk and a Moet Champagne breakfast, the event will then host a panel of speakers from the world of sport. Confirmed panellists are: one of the most influencial figures in tennis – Judy Murray; Rugby World Cup winner Maggie Alphonsi MBE; Nick Rust – Chief Executive of the BHA and Shelley Alexander – BBC editorial lead for women’s sport. The panel will be hosted by Channel 4 Racing’s Tanya Stevenson and Gina Harding.

The Grand Women’s Summit will celebrate the diverse roles women play in sport. Prominent leaders from sport, horseracing in addition to a range of other fields are expected to attend. Through the panellist’s experience combined with an interactive delegate discussion, the event will highlight the importance and power of women in sport and the part they play as role models inspiring new people to consider a career in sport either at participation or administration level. Men, women, members of Women in Racing and non-members are all welcome to attend.

Delegates will also be able to enjoy an exclusive private facility located on the Red Rum Lawn for the whole day. Cheltenham Festival winning trainer Henry de Bromhead and a bookmaker will also be marking guest’s card before racing.

Tickets for the 2016 Grand Women Summit on Friday 8th April are £89 and £75 for Women in Racing members. A ticket includes an entrance ticket for Ladies Day, a private facility in the Red Rum Lawn all day, a Grand National course walk, a champagne breakfast and the Grand Women Summit.
