A house in Fazakerley became the latest to be targeted in a spate of shootings.
Officers were called to Jean Walk shortly after 7pm on Thursday to reports that a man had fired twice at a property on the street before leaving the scene on foot.
Police discovered damage to two windows at the property consistent with a shotgun blast. No one is believed to have been hurt during the incident.
Crime scene investigators are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene and house-to-house inquiries are being conducted.
High visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure the public.
Detective Inspector Jason Pye said: “Thankfully nobody was injured.
“But using a firearm in a residential street is incredibly reckless and we are determined to find those responsible and bring them to justice.
“The full circumstances are unclear at present and we are keeping an open mind as to the motive, but we do believe it was targeted.”
