A rifle and 50 rounds of ammunition were found during a raid on an Anfield house.
Police made the discovery after conducting a thorough search of the address in Breck Road at around 10.40am on Wednesday.
Merseyside Police can confirm it is has conducted a search warrant at an address in Anfield yesterday (Wednesday 11 January).
A 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a Section 1 firearm and ammunition. He has since been released pending further enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Shaw said: “This has taken a significant amount of ammunition and a firearm out of circulation so that they can no longer blight our community.
“These weapons are used by criminals to cause harm and fear on our streets. I encourage any person with information about gun crime to call us.
“We will act on the information we receive and it could really help to make this community safer.
“We will be relentless in our pursuit of those involved in gun crime. Any information, no matter how small, could save someone’s life”
