Liverpool FC and Man Utd fans fans face prison threat

Football fans attending Liverpool FC’s clash with Manchester United have been warned that could be jailed for unfurling obscene banners.

The sides will face off at Old Trafford on Sunday for the first time since an ill-tempered Europa League clash between them in March last year.

UEFA issued sanctions against Liverpool for illicit chanting at the last 16 tie as well as skirmishes which broke out in the stands between supporters of both clubs.

Before the game group of United fans were pictured taunting their rivals by draping an banner about the Hillsborough disaster over a bridge on the M62.

In a bid to clamp down on the ugly behaviour, any offenders caught displaying the banners could be detined by police under the 2003 Communications Act.

According to the Daily Mail, punishments for the crime range from a financial penalty to jail time depending on the severity of the offence.

Liverpool and United issued a joint statement prior to October’s Premier League meeting to warn fans against chanting about the Hillsborough and Munich tragedies.
