Mohamed Salah has opened the door to a possible future transfer to La Liga.
The Liverpool forward made the admission in an interview with Madrid-based newspaper AS on Thursday amid continual links with Spain’s leading clubs.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are routinely touted as potential next destinations for Salah, who is under contact at Anfield until summer 2023.
And the Egypt international refused to discount the prospect of joining either team in the future despite insisting he is still focused on playing for the Reds.
“I think Madrid and Barcelona are top clubs,” said Salah.
“We never know what is going to happen in the future.
“But right now I’m focused on winning the Premier League and the Champions League again with my club.”
Asked about his long-term future with the Premier League champions, he added: “That’s a tough one, but right now I can say that everything is in the club’s hands.
“Of course I want to break records here and, I repeat, every record in the club, but everything’s in the hands of the club.”
Salah also expressed his disappointment at being overlooked as stand-in captain for Liverpool’s Champions League dead rubber with Midtjylland.
The 28-year-old anticipated being handed the armband for the game against the Danish champions as Jordan Henderson started on the substitutes bench.
But despite Henderson’s deputies James Milner and Virgil van Dijk being injured, Jurgen Klopp installed Trent Alexander-Arnold as temporary skipper.
“Honestly, I was very disappointed,” he said.
“I was expecting to be the captain. But it’s a manager’s decision, so I accept it.”
