Liverpool have been drawn against Chelsea in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Andoni Iraola’s side face their west London counterparts in the week commencing October 26 after they were paired together again in Wednesday night’s draw.
The Reds booked a spot in the next stage of the competition courtesy of a 3-1 win over fellow Premier League outfit Tottenham while Chelsea put Leeds to the sword.
Xabi Alonso will make another return to his former Anfield stomping ground, having visited as manager of Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid in the past two seasons.
It is set to be the 11th meeting between the clubs in the Carabao Cup with their first also taking place on Merseyside in 1977, where the hosts ran out 2-0 winners.
Both teams last faced off in the competition in the 2024 final with Liverpool sealing the final trophy of Jurgen Klopp’s reign through Virgil van Dijk’s extra-time winner.
The German also oversaw another showpiece success against the Blues in 2022, when goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher settled a prolific penalty shootout by 11-10.
Chelsea have won just one of their previous Carabao Cup ties at Anfield with Eden Hazard’s solo effort settling a third-round encounter in 2018 in the visitors’ favour.
