Arne Slot fears that Hugo Ekitike’s Achilles injury is ‘really bad’.
Ekitike was stretchered off barely half an hour into Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final exit against reigning holders Paris Saint-Germain.
The France international landed awkwardly on the turf after chasing a Florian Wirtz pass with no opposing player near him at the moment of impact.
Slot was unable to speak to Ekitike following his withdrawal while the forward is yet to undergo a scan in the aftermath of the eventual 2-0 loss to PSG.
But the Reds’ head coach appeared pessimistic about the 23-year-old’s involvement in the season’s final weeks after suffering the setback.
“It looks really bad but we don’t know how bad yet,” said Slot.
“We all see the video and the clips, it doesn’t look good.
“For only 88 minutes until tonight we have played with Florian [Wirtz], Alex [Alexander Isak] and Hugo, and we added about 27 to that tonight.
“I would be surprised if we add any more minutes to that this season.
“The good thing is, Alex is back.”
