Arne Slot has confirmed Hugo Ekitike is a doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Arsenal.
Ekitike missed last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Fulham due to a muscle soreness issue sustained following the New Year’s Day stalemate with Leeds United.
Cody Gakpo led the line at Craven Cottage in the France international’s absence after he learned the results of his MRI scan shortly before arriving in west London.
The Reds forward’s importance has been magnified by Mohamed Salah’s extended run at the Africa Cup of Nation and Alexander Isak sidelined with a broken leg.
But Slot revealed on Wednesday that Ekitike is yet to train with his side since discovering the prognosis ahead of the upcoming trip to the Emirates Stadium.
“He has not trained with us until now and let’s see if he can today,” said the Liverpool head coach.
“I’ve said, I think, two or three days ago when we played Fulham that he is not going to be out for long.
“But because games come so fast he is in between maybe training with the team or it would take him one or two days extra.”
