Virgil van Dijk expects Liverpool to make signings for the new season.
Incomings remain alarmingly sparse as Arne Slot prepares to head into next weekend’s Premier League opener with newly promoted Ipswich Town.
Real Sociedad enforcer Martin Zubimendi is the Reds’ preferred target but they are yet to make a breakthrough in negotiations for the Euro 2024 winner.
And Van Dijk has backed the Anfield hierarchy to add fresh faces to the ranks to prepare them for a potentially in-depth campaign across multiple fronts.
He said: “I am positive, I am confident.
“Obviously I think we should make some signings based on how long the season will go but I think they are working behind the scenes.
“But I am fully confident and I have trust in the club that they will do the right thing for us and get the best possible squad to compete in every competition.
“That is the main thing I am focusing on. We have the trust and we will see what happens. I think they are working very hard behind the scenes.
“So we will see how that turns out.”
Van Dijk also offered fresh insight into Slot’s formative weeks at the helm, having featured in Sunday’s 4-1 friendly win over Sevilla at Anfield.
“Obviously it is a lot of work at the training ground, tactical, physical to get fit and this was the last big test before we start with the real deal and it looks like we are ready for that,” said the defender.
“Hopefully we can show it as well because we go there Saturday and it is going to be tough. They are promoted, it is 12.30 [kick-off] and we have a big job on our hands.
“We are obviously in communication with each other and a lot of meetings, tactical meetings, where we see what we can improve as well as good things.
“But the finer details are very important to improve our game and that is what we all want. That is what we all want and what we all have to show, that desire.”
Van Dijk is now in the final 12 months of his current deal at Anfield but admitted that he is yet to be offered talks over a potential extension.
He added: “There is no changes at the moment.”
