Liverpool face being without Andy Robertson for up to three months.

Robertson suffered a shoulder injury during Scotland’s defeat to Spain after a collision with goalkeeper Unai Simon in last week’s Euro 2024 qualifying clash.

The full-back has already been ruled out for Saturday’s 243rd Merseyside derby against Everton but is now set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Robertson will need to undergo surgery following a consultation with a specialist which could lead to a prolonged lay-off.

He said: “I think the decision is we go towards surgery.

“There is a little chance we could try without it but talking to pretty much all experts it looks like surgery will be the best thing, especially in the long term definitely, and that means he is out for a while.

“I don’t know exactly how long but it is shoulder surgery so not exactly an easy one.

“In my experience you can train pretty quickly again but not football-specific because you have to be careful of challenges and all these kind of things.

“He will be out for a while.”
