Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool’s defending against Brighton was ‘really horrible’ to watch.
Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Anfield saw Klopp’s side surrender points for the fifth time in their opening seven games of the new Premier League campaign.
The visitors raced two goals ahead inside the opening 20 minutes and could have conceivably doubled their tally during a rampant first half display.
Roberto Firmino’s brace either side of the interval helped the Reds edge into a 3-2 lead before Leandro Trossard claimed his hat-trick with a late equaliser.
And Klopp conceded that his back line’s handling of Trossard and his Brighton teammates made for uncomfortable viewing during the six-goal encounter.
He said: “You remember games here from years ago when we were only one goal up.
“It happened quite frequently that everybody was nearly having a heart attack because we were just not convincing in these moments.
“It reminded me of that a bit today. I cannot say I was 100% convinced that we would not concede a goal when we were 3-2 up.
“3-3 feels like a defeat even though it is not.
“The boys can play much better. My job is to create a situation where they can deliver. For that you need stability and consistency.
“You get that with top defending, and we didn’t have that. They were really dangerous.
“I don’t know how many times I saw their offensive players just turning between the lines, it was horrendous, really horrible to watch.”
