Harvey Elliott has signed a new five-year contract with Liverpool.

Elliott previously penned a long-term deal with Jurgen Klopp’s side just last summer but agreed new terms following an upturn in his development.

The England under-21 international spent five months out of action during the previous campaign after an unfortunate injury against Leeds in September.

His return coincided with the Anfield club’s quest to win the quadruple and made a key contribution by scoring in the Carabao Cup final penalty shootout.

“Harvey got a big knock last season but, like all of the experiences he has had so far, he used it to grow as a person and a player,” said Klopp.

“It was always obvious that he was a good footballer but taking the next steps was always going to be about using information and experiences to grow and this is exactly what Harvey is doing.

“Now it is all about carrying on enjoying his football as much as we enjoy watching him develop. It is an exciting time for him and for us.”

Klopp is expected to hand Elliott a more prominent role this term as the Reds contend with a series of early injury setbacks in their midfield department.

Naby Keita missed last weekend’s opening draw at Fulham with illness while Thiago Alcantara is facing up to a month out of action with a hamstring issue.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curits Jones are also currently sidelined.
