Klopp calls on Liverpool to get ‘angry’ this season

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool need to be ‘angry’ in their approach this season.

Saturday’s Community Shield showdown against Manchester City will see Klopp’s side bid to banish an underwhelming end to their previous campaign.

The Reds’ quadruple quest fell at the last as they missed out on the Premier League title to the reigning champions and lost the Champions League final.

But Klopp has urged his players to channel that frustration as they prepare to renew hostilities with City at Leicester’s King Power Stadium this weekend.

He said: “We have a big meeting where I tell the boys what I expect from them next year.

“I want to use the togetherness we have, the atmosphere we have in the team, the experience we made for better.

“We can grow closer together, we can be clearer in the things we do. The things we do are good. Can we do it better? Yes.

“Will that always lead to a better result? That is not possible because we won a lot of games but performance wise we can definitely improve and that is what we try.

“We want to create resilience and a fighting spirit. Being angry is important to fight against the outside world in this specific moment.

“All these things we can do,.We don’t know where it will lead us.

“But we know it will improve us, based on the things we know are important when we bring them on the pitch.”

The Liverpool manager also explained the reason for Caoimhin Kelleher and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s respective absences during pre-season training.

Klopp added: “Caoimhin had something after the international games.

“Everybody in the medical departments there told him that it’s fine, it will be good after the holiday. He came back, first training, he felt it again.

“We checked it and it was not good. I think Caoimhin will be another two or three weeks and should be fine.

“With Oxlade it will take a little bit longer. It’s a serious hamstring injury.

“We all hate this word ‘injury’ but it happens from time to time and now Ox was the one.”
