A Liverpool supporters’ group have condemned UEFA’s pricing structure for Champions League final tickets.
Spirit of Shankly accused European football’s governing body of double standards just 12 months after it condemned the failed Super League plot.
The Reds’ allocation for their clash with Real Madrid in Paris on May 28 have been capped at 19,618 tickets, with prices ranging from £50.30 to £578.63.
Only an request by Anfield chiefs and their Spanish counterparts saw 15,500 seats made available in the two lowest pricing tiers of £50.32 and £125.79.
Both finalists’ tickets amount to 52.3% of the Stade de France’s capacity while UEFA have allocated 23,764 to the ‘football family’ and its corporate partners.
A further 12,000 will be available via a public ballot, but some are already listed on resale websites for £3,275 with hospitality tickets at £15,499.
In an open letter, Spirit of Shankly highlighted the hypocrisy of UEFA’s anti-Super League stance while increasing its ticket revenue by 38% since 2018.
“Since 2018 when LFC last played Real Madrid in the final, UEFA’s ticket revenue has gone from €3.06m to €4.22m, which equates to a 38% increase in four years,” read the group’s letter.
“In standing up to the failed Super League, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said: ‘I can’t understand how you can see your fans protesting and you don’t care. You are full of money anyway, you’re not poor, but you want more and more and more.’
“Well Mr Ceferin, Liverpool fans are protesting and you don’t seem to care. Uefa are not poor, but you seem to want more. And more.
“Similarly, UEFA’s proposed changes to their club competitions in the future ignore the interests of the fans.
“Football supporters are tired of being ripped off. Tired of watching their team reach a final, but unable to find a ticket to attend. And tired of exorbitant prices.
“It’s time Uefa recognised the power of fans and the importance of fans above sponsorships.”
