Liverpool closing in on record Nike kit deal

Liverpool are closing in on a record-breaking sponsorship with Nike.

The European champions’ existing kit deal with New Balance is set to expire at the end of this season with the American sportswear giant ready to step in.

Boston-based New Balance have made the Reds’ strips since the 2012/13 campaign in an arrangement worth around £45 million per year.

But Nike’s offer is expected to surpass the £750m that Adidas agreed with Manchester United in 2014 on a ten-year manufacturing contract.

It would place Liverpool in the same revenue bracket as the current leading kit deals commanded by Barcelona (£98m per year) and Real Madrid (£107m p/a)

New Balance still have the option to extend their current arrangement by matching the figures put forward by other interested parties.

However they are understood to have not yet to respond to put forward a figure equal or greater to Nike’s currently lucrative proposal.

Meanwhile Liverpool recorded a near-clean sweep at FIFA’s The Best awards, with only Virgil van Dijk missing out on the coverted players’ accolade.

Jurgen Klopp was named Best Coach at Monday’s ceremony in Milan while Alisson scooped the newly-introduced Best Goalkeeper category.

Both the Brazil international and Van Dijk were also named in FIFA’s team of the year but the defender lost out to Lionel Messi for the top honour of Best Player.
