Sean Dyche has labelled Everton’s transfer windows during his time as ‘a s*** show’.
Dyche spent just shy of two years in the Goodison Park hot seat before he was sacked just hours before an FA Cup third round tie with Peterborough United.
The former defender steered the Blues to Premier League safety amid back-to-back point deductions and a final-day escape against Bournemouth in 2023.
His initial appointment on Merseyside coincided with a turbulent period in which the club’s board was in self-imposed exile while several deals failed to come to pass.
Despite erstwhile owner Farhad Moshiri pledging that he would sign a striker in the January transfer window, numerous marksmen turned down moves to Everton.
Incomings were later offset by first-team sales of likes of Amadou Onana and Alex while a number of loan deals helped make up the bulk of a paper-thin squad.
Dyche has now lifted the lid on the extent of his transfer dealings as Everton boss by placing them in stark contrast to a near decade-long spell in charge of Burnley.
“When you’re at somewhere for a longer period, like I was at Burnley, after sort of three or four years we’ve got it up and running,” he told The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.
“It’s working. Everyone knows their roles. You can delegate better because once that trust builds, you’re onto something and the CEO knows what you’re thinking, analysts know, sports scientists know. Then it’s really easy.
“It was not so easy going to Everton, where it was a f*****g s**t show. It’s constantly f*****g putting out fires. A whole different ball game.
“It was brilliant in a weird way, because it’s rewarding when you get it done [avoiding relegation]. There’s that feeling of going ‘well I played my part in this’.”
