Everton fans will be allowed to consume alcohol in their seats at Women’s Super League games.
The move is part of a league-wide trial which will coincide with Brian Sorensen’s side taking up permanent residence at Goodison Park from next season.
Supporters attending the Blues’ home games in the Super League and League Cup will be able to take up the option but Women’s FA Cup fixtures remain exempt.
An initial pilot took place at four WSL2 clubs in the second half of the previous campaign and has now been followed by 14 clubs across the top two divisions.
No safety incidents were reported at the games where it was trialled and two-thirds of supporters surveyed on the scheme were in favour of its continuation.
A joint letter from Everton and key fan representatives to the FA pledged their support in hopes of leading the way in enhancing the profile of the women’s game.
The club also confirmed on Thursday that an alcohol-free family area will be in effect in the Main Stand’s enclosure between the Park End and the home dugout.
Safety protocols will be in place to support a responsible and enjoyable fan environment, with stewards and staff trained accordingly.
WSL Football’s chief operating officer Holly Murdoch, said: “Expanding this trial for the new campaign, encompassing our Barclays WSL teams and additional Barclays WSL2 clubs, is part of our strategy to offer a best-in-class experience for our fans attending matches.
“Exploring giving supporters the choice to drink alcohol in the stands was something we were excited to trial and following such positive feedback from the proof-of-concept version, we’re looking forward to opening it up to more venues and equally, hearing from those at the heart of it – our clubs and supporters.”
