Everton have held talks with Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.
Delap is being courted by a host of Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle in the race for his signature.
A move to the Blues had previously been touted with a move for the 22-year-old forward as they seek to reinforce their attacking options this summer.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin will become a free agent at the end of the season while Armando Broja is set to return to Chelsea after a fruitless loan spell.
David Moyes has now revealed that talks with Delap are in the works but also acknowledged Everton’s interest is less advanced than their top-flight peers.
He said: “We have had a chance to speak to him.
“He’s spoken to three or four clubs and he’s given us the opportunity to pitch our case.
“We’re probably a little bit behind the black ball but you never know what happens.”
Moyes is also considering an audacious move for Liverpool winger Ben Doak, which would be the first direct transfer from red to blue in more than 30 years.
The Scotland international would follow the late Gary Ablett, the last player to switch Anfield for Goodison Park in 1992, should a deal become viable.
However Doak’s valuation stands in the region of £30 million, having previously been the subject of failed bids from Crystal Palace and Ipswich.
