Abdoulaye Doucoure’s five-year spell at Everton is set to officially end.
The Mali international has made 165 appearances since joining David Moyes’ side from Watford in summer 2020, scoring 21 goals during that period.
His most memorable came on the final day of the 2022/23 season that salvaged the club’s Premier League status with a decisive piledriver against Bournemouth.
But Doucoure appeared to indicate that his time with the Blues was coming to an end by emotionally leaving the pitch in Sunday’s last-ever game at Goodison Park.
On Tuesday, the midfielder finally confirmed that he will be departing Merseyside after his final involvement in this weekend’s season-ending trip to Newcastle United.
“Everton means a lot to me,” said Doucoure.
“The past five years have been hard but I will always remember my time as a dream. Iam sad to leave the club.
“But I think the time has come for a new chapter for me and for the club as well.
“I will always be grateful for what the club did for me. I will miss the fans, I will miss the football club.
“I just want to let them know that I gave everything every single time; in training, in games. I was always proud to wear the shirt, always proud to play at Goodison Park.
“I gave everything to try and win most games I could and I will just miss the place. I wish them all the best in the new stadium.
“Everton will always be part of my life now. I will be forever a Blue and always supporting Everton. I hope they’re going to have a bright future.”
Moyes paid a glowing tribute to Doucoure following his announcement to pursue opportunities elsewhere despite being offered a fresh extension by the club.
He said: “Doucs has been an influential player throughout his time at the club, including since I returned as manager.
“Evertonians will always be grateful for his dedication and crucial goals.
“Everyone at Everton thanks Doucs for his service and wishes him all the best for the future.”
