Everton consider WSL team’s Goodison move

Everton are exploring relocating their women’s team to Goodison Park.

The club will leave their spiritual home at the end of the current campaign when they finally move into the 52,888-capacity Bramley-Moore Dock.

Initially, the Blues had signed off on plans for a legacy project at Goodison which would see it repurposed for affordable housing and healthcare facilities.

But the possibility of Brian Sorensen’s side switching to the site from nearby Walton Hall Park is now being considered once the first team finally depart.

It comes amid a threat of the Women’s Super League mainstays being forced to pay rent to play home games at their current venue under new proposals.

Liverpool City Council has drawn up a recommendation to alter the existing agreement which has been in place since Everton moved to Walton Hall Park.

The club moved into the site in 2020 and has seen its capacity increased to 2,200 spectators alongside several considerable upgrades to facilities.

New owners The Friedkin Group have made the development of the women’s team, currently eighth in the WSL, part of their blueprint to transform the club.

Sorensen’s side have played at Goodison on several occasions in the past with the latest seeing them run out 1-0 winners over Liverpool in November.

Walton Hall Park was a bone of contention between Everton and the local authority in 2015, when the club wished to relocate there from Goodison.

Former chief executive Robert Elstone clashed with erstwhile mayor Joe Anderson over a perceived lack of council support for their relocation bid.
