Moyes hopeful of ‘another Fellaini’ signing

David Moyes hopes Everton can pull off another deadline day masterstroke.

A loan for Flamengo’s Carlos Alcaraz is nearing completion as the Scot aims to draft in further bodies before the transfer window closes on Monday night.

Moyes was no stranger to late coups during his first spell in the Goodison Park hot seat with Marouane Fellaini signed at the eleventh hour in 2008.

But while the Blues’ manager is hopeful on further additions, he is pessimistic on the chances of securing another capture of the Belgian’s quality this time.

He said: “I’ve done a few [late deals].

“Fellaini was the latest. I think it was after midnight when it got done!

“I’ve been in a few late ones but Fellaini’s take some beating when we brought him in.

“If we were really fortunate enough to bring in another Fellaini, it’d be great but probably unfortunate in this window, we might not be able to do that.”

Flamengo announced on Friday that they had brokered an agreement with Everton over Alcaraz’s season-long loan with the option to make it permanent.

Moyes, however, insists talks for the ex-Southampton midfielder are ongoing.

“I’m hearing that there’s ongoing conversations at the moment,” he added.

“I don’t think there’s anything confirmed or definite or not done so I might find out some more later today.

“We’re trying to add some bodies to what we’ve got.”
