Beto makes Everton admission after brace

Beto insists he alone will not be the solution to Everton’s goalscoring woes.

The Everton striker netted twice in Saturday’s 4-0 rout over Leicester City that opened up a 10-point cushion from the Premier League’s relegation zone.

David Moyes handed Beto a rare start after injuries to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja while Youssef Chermiti is still working his way back to full fitness.

But while buoyed by his brace against the Foxes, Beto believes that the Blues can collectively remedy their attacking shortage rather than a single player.

He said: “It was a really hard year and a half.

“I just put in my mind that if I keep working and keep myself prepared, the opportunities will come.

“Today I showed that I am prepared to play in the Premier League.

“I know I can play in the Premier League, and I know I can improve. This game will give me confidence and give confidence to the team.

“I don’t think I will be the answer; I think we [the team] will be the answer.”

Moyes’ return to the hot seat has seen the Blues rack up three in from his opening four games compared to the same number in 19 under Sean Dyche.

Asked what differences he has noticed since the Scot’s reappointment, Beto replied: “I think the mentality.

“The mentality of the team now is that we put ourselves in situations that we want to win games, and the gaffer always speaks with us in terms of we have quality and we need to play with our qualities.

“The boost of confidence that he gave us is really, really good and really important.

“I will not say that the previous manager didn’t want to play and didn’t want to create chances, but it is a different type of football.

“We now have confidence to play, and we are playing, and we are showing people that we are capable of doing a good run and a good season.”
