Ex-Liverpool FC boss open to becoming next Everton FC manager

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez is open to the prospect of becoming Everton manager.

The Spaniard failed in his attempts to spare the Magpies from Premier League relegation, confirmed by the Blues’ defeat to Sunderland in Roberto Martinez’s final game in charge.

But while an extended stay with Newcastle has not been discounted, the prospect of a permanent return to Merseyside, where his family have remained on Merseyside since his deposition by Liverpool in 2010, may see Benitez reconsider his options.

Benitez previously expressed an interest in taking the reins in 2013, prior to Martinez’s appointment but resistance to the 56-year-old is likely to emerge from the Goodison Park hiearchy from his time at Anfield, during which he belittled Everton as a ‘small club’.
